From its origins, Warrane College has consistently promoted the ideal of service. This spirit of service starts at home, with the priority of offering a living environment based on friendship and trust.

Looking outwards, Warrane also sponsors community service initiatives that attract volunteers from amongst staff and residents.

St Vincent de Paul’s Night Patrol

A team of volunteers from Warrane regularly participate in St Vincent de Paul’s Night Patrol program every month, providing food and company for Sydney’s homeless.

The evening commences at 6.30pm when volunteers arrive at St Vincent de Paul’s offices to make sandwiches and prepare the “Vinnies Van”. Throughout the night, stops are made at designated areas throughout Sydney, providing opportunities to share stories and mingle amongst people. The evening typically concludes before midnight.

Visits to Nursing Homes

Almost every Saturday residents make a visit to a local nursing home and spend an hour or so talking to residents and, sometimes, performing musical numbers or helping in other ways (gardening, preparing food, moving furniture, among others)

Task Force

Every two weeks, a team of 2 volunteers participate in St Vincent de Paul’s “Task Force” program. Volunteers make home visits to residents in housing estates in Redfern, providing company as well as vouchers for food and utilities.

Warrane’s volunteers are rostered on Tuesday nights, during the time of 6.00-8.00pm.

Soup Kitchen

A group of volunteers from Warrane make regular visits to the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen located in Surry Hills. The visits usually take place on a weekday morning. Volunteers help the Sisters prepare free meals for the hungry.

Workcamps

“Workcamps” are organised and run by Warrane College in conjunction with Reledev Australia Limited, a non-profit, voluntary and AusAID accredited NGO.

Workcamps have been held across the Pacific Rim, parts of Asia and at several Aboriginal communities within Australia. These volunteer service projects aim to contribute towards the immediate welfare and sustainable development of the various communities.

This initiative started in 1987 with the intention to serve people in need in developing countries and disadvantaged communities within Australia.
