Professional Development

Professional development is a major part of College life at Warrane. Residents are encouraged from first year to consider their professional direction and to form networks that will serve them later in life. A number of College activities are aimed at facilitating this development.

Formal Dinners

The Wednesday Formal Dinner is the weekly focal point of collegial life. This is the one night of the week that all residents of the College dine together at the same time. Residents dress in formal attire and are served a three-course meal with wine, including aperitif, main course and dessert. A person prominent in professional or public life joins residents for dinner and gives a presentation afterwards in the main common room. During the evening, announcements are made at dinner about weekly social and sporting events.

Faculty Clubs

In 2007, Faculty Clubs were established for the faculties of Engineering, Medicine, Business, Science/IT and The Built Environment. Faculty Clubs provide a forum for students of each faculty to network with each other and with academics and practicioners. Faculty Clubs organize “Faculty Dinners”, forums and site visits. Through Faculty Clubs, alumni offer mentoring and career advice to students.

Warrane Association

The Warrane Alumni Association is the means by which many hundreds of Old Boys of Warrane can keep in touch with the College.

In 2009 the Warrane Association commenced a series of monthly lunches in the Sydney CBD. These are held in the basement of Portico Books in the City, and they are a means for alumni and friends to get together over lunch and to interact with a prominent guest from the Sydney business and professional community. Current Warrane residents are invited to attend.

Former Warrane residents also interact with the College and the professional development of its current residents by arranging industrial training places and mentoring residents for professional practice.
